5 Simple Wedding Hairstyles

Figuring out what kind of hairstyle you want for your wedding is an honest struggle. There are so many styles to choose from and all of them look amazing! Pinterest is definitely THE place for hairstyle inspiration. Actually, Pinterest is the perfect place for any kind of inspiration haha. But it can get overwhelming because there many cute styles.

When choosing your hairstyle, there are a few factors that go into deciding your wedding hairstyle. For example, your wedding dress and the season – weather is impossible to predict. You know how mother nature gets. But there are certain measures you can take based on the season. If you’re having an outdoor wedding in August, you’ll most likely want your hair up (especially if it’s in a humid location).

The 5 hairstyles listed below are all popular wedding hairstyles amongst brides from all over the world. These looks are flattering on almost everyone too.

Some, like the french braid and all down hairstyle, are convertible. Meaning, you can switch the style up in between your ceremony and reception in a timely manner. For your ceremony, you can have your hair all down and then put it up in a low or high ponytail during the reception.

Side note: all of these wedding hairstyles are budget-friendly. You can do these at home by yourself or have your maid of honor help. And if you can’t decide which one looks the most flattering on you, do a few trials. You can either go to a hairstylist or watch a Youtube tutorial and have someone help you.

Pro Tip: Once you have your wedding hairstylist picked out, most stylists offer a complimentary test run of what your hair will look like on your wedding day!

The Chignon

“Chignon” comes from the French word, “chignon du cou,” which means nape of the neck. This hairstyle is one of the most popular hairstyles for a wedding. Elegant and easy to do, the chignon is most definitely a traditional look. You’ve most likely seen this hairstyle a few dozen times and didn’t realize the type of style.

To put it simply, the hair is groomed back into a low bun. This look pairs nicely with earrings since all your hair is pulled back. This hairstyle also makes it easy to add a tiara or veil. You can keep it simple or add jewelry.

French Twist

The french twist hairstyle is an updo style that’s structured and sophisticated looking. I’m not sure why but this hairstyle gives me a major royalty vibe. Although this hairstyle isn’t as common anymore, it is still asked for by many brides. It was most popular back in the 1960s.

In order to do this, you gather the hair in one hand and twist the hair upwards so it forms a roll on your head – hence the word “twist.” It pairs lovely with a brooch on the top and works beautifully with a veil or tiara as well.

French Braid

Alright, I know what you’re probably thinking. “A french braid? I do that to go to work.” Personally, I think that french braids look very fitting for a beach-style wedding or an informal wedding. Plus there are many different ways to do a french bride. Remember how I mentioned that the french braid is convertible? You can have the french braid during the ceremony and then twist it into a bun afterward.

Nowadays, brides often choose a loose french braid style which gives a nice romantic feel. I have seen brides do a half french braid and half down hairstyle on social media as well. I love a loose french braid with hair jewelry added in the middle or top.

Half Up, Half Down

The half-up, half-down hairstyle is a classic bride’s favorite! It’s a go-to for every occasion. The versatility of this hairdo is the reason why it’s favorable amongst many brides. It works perfectly for short, long, thick, and thin hair.

You can keep your hair straight or curly – although loose curls are highly recommended for your wedding. Something about loose curls just feels romantic, you know? My favorite thing is that you can take out your half-up hairdo and put it all down for your reception. This of course depends on how your hair is styled up. Or take the bottom half of your hair and pull it to the top. This look is timeless and elegant.

All Down

If you want to play it safe, you can definitely go with the all-down hairstyle. Not a lot of us are gifted with hair styling but we all know what our hair looks like down – straight or curly. So if you’re an indecisive person, maybe an all-down hairstyle is perfect for you. Besides, you can always put your hair up while tearing it up on the dance floor and have it still look nice.

That being said: be mindful of the type of hair you have and your wedding venue. Humidity can change every girl’s hair texture so play around with it. If you’ve ever said, “my hair is so frizzy,” you might want to reconsider this style. Talk to your hairstylist and see what she or he recommends. Although you’re playing it safe looks-wise, you may never know what mother nature is thinking. It’s a risk you’re taking – let the odds be in your favor.

And whichever hairstyle you choose, just know that you’ll be the most beautiful person at the wedding.
