Ultimate Skincare Routine: Wedding Edition

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the best wedding beauty routine! From your pre-wedding beauty routine to your honeymoon makeup regimen, here is everything you need to know.

Having a great skincare routine is so crucial. For one, it’ll help you look younger when you’re in your 50s. And while acne can be hormonal, certain skincare products can help maintain that. Using skincare products that best suit you will help make your skin look glowing, plump, and healthy.

With all the information from this article, you’ll be able to create your own wedding beauty plan. Having a wedding skincare routine is crucial if you want to look your best in wedding photos! Great skin allows makeup to look better. Regardless, having an everyday skincare routine is important no matter what.

Wedding Skincare

If you’re looking for any bridal tips or a bridal beauty routine, you’ve come to the right place. Couples have so much fun doing cake testing and shopping that they often forget their wedding skin preparation!

Once you settle on a wedding date, start your skincare prep! I have listed the skincare routine in order.

First things first, you need a great face cleanser to get all the dirt out of your pores. Clogged pores make your pores not only look bigger but you’re also more prone to breaking out.

  1. Face Cleanser

If you wear makeup often, you will need an oil-based cleanser. The oil-based cleanser will break up your makeup while a deep cleanser gets all the remaining gunk out. Yes, you need to cleanse your face twice when you wear makeup or sunscreen.

Then I met You Living Cleansing Balm and Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Cleansing Balm are amazing choices. They are gentle on your face while breaking up your makeup for an easy wash.

Youth to the People Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser and Tatcha Deep Cleanse Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser are great for all skincare types. They get rid of all the dirt in your pores without stripping your face. Do you know how sometimes your face feels squeaky clean after using a cleanser? Well, that’s not always a great thing. Both of these cleansers add extra benefits to your skin too.

  1. Toners and Serums

Some skincare gurus say that toners aren’t necessary. Toner’s help hydrate your skin so technically, if you have a really nice moisturizer, you don’t need a toner. I like using toners because it gives my face the extra hydration it needs.. It’s also nice to have before putting on makeup.

Serums are great for targeting specific skin issues. Hydrating serums are the most well-known. Hydrating serums are able to penetrate through your skin more, whereas moisturizers kind of sit on top of your face. Serums also help with acne, discoloration, wrinkles, and much more.

Toners: Innisfree Green Tea Moisture-Balancing Toner, Ren Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic, and Primera Miracle Seed Essence work well for hydration purposes.

Serums: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, SkinCeuticals C E Feurlic, SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel, and the Biossance Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum target different skin needs.

When using toner and serum together, your skin should feel great. It will take time for the products to work and be visible so be patient. Do your research and ask a dermatologist if needed.

  1. Acne Prone Skin Types

If you break out here and there, you’ll want to buy skincare products that help prevent acne.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, and The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% are life savers!

When looking for an acne preventative, you want salicylic acid as the main ingredient. Salicylic acid penetrates the skin more deeply which allows it to dissolve skin debris that clogs your pores. Therefore, it acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps pimples go away faster. It also helps with blackheads and whiteheads.

  1. Retinol

Retinol is your go-to for all anti-aging purposes. It helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture. It’s the secret ingredient to flawless skin.

Be careful, retinol is a strong ingredient so it’s important to use it in moderation (2-3 times a week).  It will dry out your skin the first few times you use it so make sure you moisturize consistently. Retinol starts out at .01% – 1% (obviously, 1% being the strongest).

Also, stay away from the sun when you have used retinol. The sun can make your skin more sensitive.

If you’re under 25, anything under .5% will be fine. Unless you have super deep forehead wrinkles, 1% retinol isn’t necessary. I’d recommend using 1% if you’re over 30 years old or if you’re starting to see some wrinkles on your face.

Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream, Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair and SkinCeuticals Retinol Face Cream are well-known retinols.

Unless you’ve used retinol before, I’d recommend using Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair first. Build up your tolerance then switch to the more intense retinol creams listed above.

  1. Moisturizer

Regardless of what kind of skin type you have, a good moisturizer is a must! Unless you’re 16 years old, buying a good moisturizer is important. That doesn’t necessarily mean an expensive moisturizer.

Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion, SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture Lotion, First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream, and Youth to the People Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream work for all skin types!

For moisturizers, try to avoid fragrance since fragrance can irritate the skin. I always go for clean ingredients that have no fragrance.

SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture Lotion is a must-have if you have dry skin. It works best as a nighttime lotion.

Youth to the People Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream & First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream work great as a day time lotion for sensitive skin types – although it works for everyone. It also works great underneath your makeup. It’s definitely lightweight.

Side note: If you have incredibly dry skin and feel like nothing works, SkinCeuticals B5 Hydrating Gel is amazing! After a few times, my super dry skin became soft. Mine was so bad that smiling would hurt my cheeks. If you also live somewhere cold and the wind slaps your face, the B5 hydrating gel will help!  This product is worth every dime.

Best Value: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration. This lotion works great for all skin types at any hour of the day! It works beautifully under makeup and truly hydrates your skin. The best part is that it’s $36 for 6oz / 170g and it’s packed with product. It’s definitely worth your money and affordable!

  1. Eye Cream

Contrary to common belief, an eye cream is also a “luxury” item. What do I mean by that? Well, you don’t really need it. Just like a toner, it just helps hydrate your under eye. So if your nighttime lotion is high quality, then you don’t really need an eye cream. I personally think it’s a marketing tactic but hey, I still use it.

I have seen some people be really harsh when putting on their eye cream… Be gentle! Your under eye is the most sensitive skin on your face. Take two fingers and gently tap under your eyes.

Ren Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream, First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Niacinamide Brightening Eye Cream, and SkinMedica Instant Bright Eye Cream all do the trick!

  1. Sunscreen

Let me say this loud and clear, wear sunscreen at all times! Regardless if it’s raining, gloomy, or you’re inside all day. You used to be able to get away with saying, “I hate how heavy sunscreens feel,” or “I hate how oily sunscreen makes my face.” Not anymore. There are incredible sunscreen formulas out there – you just have to look!

Sunscreen helps with burning, acne, sagging, skin cancer, and anti-aging. Premature skin aging is always caused by the sun. Wear sunscreen everyday, ok?

Supergoop! Sunscreen, First Aid Beauty Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide, Neutrogena Sheer-Zinc Dry Touch, and Tarte Tarteguard Mineral Powder SPF 30 are all affordable and work well.

Neutrogena is the most affordable you can find at any drug store. This is the heaviest sunscreen out of the ones mentioned and will leave a whitecast. However, if you’re just going to be at home or heading down to the pool, you’ll want to use this.

First Aid Beauty’s sunscreen is tinted. After a few seconds, it doesn’t even feel like there’s anything on your face. I find this sunscreen to be perfect when running errands.

Tarte’s mineral powder is a game changer! I highly recommend this if you wear makeup often. You can use this mineral powder sunscreen throughout the day to get rid of the oils on your face. It’s small enough to fit inside your purse as well.

*Most products listed above can be found at Sephora*

Wedding Preparation

Alright, I know that was a lot of information so take a few seconds to digest it. I purposefully listed them in order from start to beginning for your beauty routine. You’re welcome!

Wedding preparations are stressful enough so your bridal beauty regimen shouldn’t be too complicated. Keep it simple but target your skin issues. Also, make sure to get your partner on board! You both want to look flawless, right?

Remember to start your skin care routine months in advance! The minute you have the wedding date and venue set is when you should start your skincare routine.

There’s not really a “wedding beauty timeline” since it takes a few months for visibility but in order to prevent wedding day rashes and panic, start at least 6 months before your big day.

Rule of thumb: it takes 3 months for product results –  positive or negative.

These are a couple of products that will produce amazing results for your wedding day. Obviously, there are other amazing products out on the market! Find something that works for you and make sure your partner is doing the same. Obviously, your beauty regimen can be used forever! But seriously, do your skincare routine everyday. You will thank me later in life.
